Abi Sherer, Clinical Mental Health Intern
Hi, I’m Abi Sherer! I am an intern at Lighthouse Counseling Services and am currently attending Marquette University, pursuing my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I earned my Bachelor’s in Psychology with a Mind & Brain certificate from the University of Kansas in May 2024. I am a member of both the Wisconsin Counseling Association (WCA) and the American Counseling Association (ACA) and plan to utilize these resources to provide ethical, compassionate, and culturally competent care to clients.
While I am a student, I am dedicated to providing the highest quality therapeutic care in an environment that fosters growth, learning, and encouragement. My experience here is helping me to move towards being the most effective and supportive counselor I can be.
Within the counseling setting, I am especially interested in supporting adolescents, adults, and couples who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, interpersonal struggles, self-esteem issues, OCD, personality disorders, or otherwise. I tend to favor the use of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance-Commitment Therapy (ACT), and a strengths-based approach, all through a person-centered lens. This means that I work to recognize the unique needs of each client and how I can best provide support that aligns with their individual goals and experiences.
As a developing counselor, I am truly honored by the opportunity to work with clients to move towards their healing and growth. I aim to foster a safe, respectful, and encouraging environment and work together towards a place where you can better understand your thoughts, emotions, and patterns so that you can make meaningful and lasting changes in your life.
