Malina Jacobsson, Clinical Mental Health Intern
Hello! My name is Malina Jacobsson and I am a student intern at Lighthouse Counseling Services. Currently, I am completing my Master’s degree at Carroll University in the Behavioral Health program where I am working towards becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor – In Training. In 2024, I graduated from Carroll University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and a Minor in Theater Arts with the goal of working in the mental health field.
Throughout school, I have gained experience as a Mental Health Technician in residential care who worked with a team to complete treatment effectively. This position allowed me to support residents in a safe, structured, and empathetic environment. I primarily worked with adolescents between the ages of 13 - 17 who experienced symptoms related to personality disorders, anxiety, depression, and trauma. I have used Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) with individuals to meet their therapeutic goals.
I provide child/adolescent and adult individual therapy for a variety of challenges such as anxiety, stress, eating disorders, depression, ADHD, and self-esteem.
Furthermore, my therapeutic approach is tailored towards person-centered, strengths-based, and play therapy, while incorporating behavioral approaches that are supportive to the individuals specific needs. My goal is to create an environment where individuals feel safe to express themselves authentically. I hope to work with individuals in making effective change to improve overall well-being.
